Last year, we talked more about Logitech’s popular racing wheel in the G27 Wheel and Pedal set and how it is widely known to be used in the most popular racing games and simulators like with iRacing, Forza Motorsports, and other online racing games. Today in 2016, Logitech is still considered one of the best manufacturers of force feedback racing wheels with the revolution of the popular Logitech G920 Force Feedback Racing Wheel.
In this review, we’ll show everyone the features and specifications of the Logitech G920 Force Feedback Racing wheels as well as why this racing wheel is far better than using a traditional wireless or wired gaming controller in more sophisticated and advanced racing style video games used today.
Logitech G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel Features
The Logitech G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel is one of the most recommended racing wheels in our book in 2016 that is clearly a very responsive force feedback wheel under the test of any racing game applications as it provides an outstanding development with it’s dual force feedback hardware to provide the true handling for any race cars whether it is sports car racing under the dark of night at 24 hours of Le Mans or mixing it up on the dirt chasing simulation dreams to Daytona.
What makes the Logitech G920 Force Feedback Wheel unique? It is very quite with the helical gear setup in the wheel mechanics that is not too tightly meshed to cause any loud grumbling or growling noises overtime much like the previous racing wheels used before (Mad Catz and Thrustmaster TX wheels) and it doesn’t have much faults that can be addressed as far as durability and reliability goes. Under our positive impression, this racing wheel never showed any signs of backlash or excessive play in the steering that could have potentially messed up the configuration setup for racing on iRacing.
The software program that comes with the Logitech G920 force feedback wheel is very simple to install and even includes a way to automatically the games your playing and uploading them to a profiler on the software to pre-calibrate the racing wheel to work specifically for that racing game.
Of course, for some racing games like iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Forza Motorsorts and other racing games it would be best to customize some of the pre-calibrated settings by playing with steering sensitivity, clipping, deadzone settings to find the fine line with this wheel since it is not quite going to get the realistic feel initially at the start of plug-and-play despite installing the software.
The big downsides to using the Logitech G920 Force Feedback Racing Wheel is that there are no shift indicators like the G27 Force Feedback Wheel and the brake pedal on the nonlinear pedal set seems to be too stiff for feel as far as damping goes; but, it can be modified to adjust the spring itself to help a little for improved feel…Just don’t make it too soft or you’ll have a more sensitive brake, LOL!
Also, the wheel itself seems to be a little small so it is likely not to be recommend for most individuals who have giant hands all because everybody needs the room to maneuver when steering left and right on the road courses.
The Logitech G920 Wheel can be configured to program an external 6-Speed H-Pattern shifter if the paddle shifters are not really in the comfort zone of shifting especially if you have big hands and happen to shift up or down by accident.
Despite not being initially mentioned, the Logitech G920 Racing wheel is fully compatible to work with the new Windows 10 Operating System; but, everyone who chooses to play on the Windows 10 platform must download the Windows 10 drivers from Logitech’s website to make the G920 work and be programmed before racing. You can download the drivers and firmware updates by clicking HERE to go to Logitech’s support website! (Windows 10 G920 Compatibility Software released on 2/22/2016)
This racing wheel will also work for both the XBOX One and other previous Windows Operating Systems (Windows 7, 8, 8.1) for games that support force-feedback racing wheels.
Logitech G920 Compatibility
After further testing and gathering feedback, we have concluded that the following games are compatible to work with the Logitech G920 Force Feedback Racing Wheel:
XBOX One
- All Forza Racing Games!
- Project Cars
Windows PC
- Need For Speed: Shift
- Need For Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed
- Assetto Corsa
- iRacing
- Eurotruck Simulator 2
- American Truck Simulator
- Dirt Rally
- rFactor 2
Conclusion
In looking at the Logitech G920 Racing Wheel over the Logitech G27 Racing Wheel from the past, it does have decent support with more options for the future including with future Windows operating systems; but, possibly Logitech could open up support gaming options for Mac Operating Systems.
This wheel develops a 90% plug and play system out of the box with it’s pre-configuration settings to play any racing game with little customization and tweaking here and there; but, is literally worth setting up to play with for hours without showing any signs of overheating or developing unwanted noises.
As many more racing games are coming out this year in 2016 and beyond, the Logitech G920 Force Feedback Racing Wheel can potentially develop to work with new racing game releases if Logitech develops the proper updates and patches for this racing wheel overtime to reduce programming issues.
