E3 2016: Ubisoft Press Conference Recap

Ubisoft made their mark at E3 2016 in celebration to the 30th anniversary of their company and they brought the heat with some new game titles coming later this year and next year with the introduction to Ghost Recon: Wildlands, For Honor, Watch Dogs 2, and more titles. Also, Ubisoft brings a huge announcement for a movie that will be based on one of their most popular video game titles and franchises made by the company.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands Revealed

For the next Ghost Recon game, it will be set in the country of Bolivia and develop a new main story campaign that will evolve around the Ghost Recon team in taking down a Mexican drug cartel known as the Santa Blanca cartel and their leader El Sueno in domination of the Bolivian government and the stronghold of the country as well as stopping them from spreading their known drug trafficking across the whole world.

Dominick Butler, lead game designer for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, reported that the game will be the first entry in the Ghost Recon franchise to feature an open world style of gameplay where it can be played in both solo or in a 4-player co-op mode to accomplish the missions and their objective. The game will be played in a modern time-slot rather than in a futuristic time-slot like Future Solider.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands is set to be released on March 7th, 2017…

The Division Updates and Add-Ons

If everyone reviewed our Xbox Press Conference Recap, you would know that Ubisoft announced the first of three DLC mission packs that will be available later this month starting with the “Underground” Expansion Pack which will take the war down below the streets of NYC.

As an exclusive and appreciation to Ubisoft’s 30th Anniversary, there will also be 3 unlock-able outfits that will available to those who purchase the Underground Expansion DLC Pack.  These DLC outfits will include Sam Fisher’s suit from Splinter Cell, an outfit from Rainbow Six: Siege (similar to “Ash” Operator), and an outfit from the upcoming video game Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Another expansion will also be coming with the introduction to the “Survival” Expansion II pack which will bring a new means to survive on the streets in NYC, surviving a dynamic blizzard and finding needed supplies while roaming around (food, weapons, ammo, etc.).

First Assassin’s Creed Movie Revealed

Assassin's Creed movie coming December 2016

Assassin’s Creed has always been a fan favorite from the Ubisoft fleet of games off the gecko from the first Assassin’s Creed released way back in 2007 to the most recent major release of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (2015). Along the way Assassin’s Creed has also made headlines outside of the gaming world and community in many novels, comics, and a few short-films (tied to the video games).

Now there is a new addition of Assassin’s Creed coming out very soon; but, only this time it won’t be another video game. Instead, there will be a full theatrical movie of Assassin’s Creed that will be released. The first Assassin’s Creed movie will star co-producer and actor Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch and Aguilar de Nerha, the descendants of the Assassin’s from the Spanish Inquisition Era in the film .

Co-Producer of the new Assassin’s Creed movie, Frank Marshall (executive producer to Indiana Jones & Bourne movies) stated that the Assassin’s Creed video games in fact brings potentially the elements in creating a movie while also keeping the respect of Assassin’s Creed elements and the games franchise; but, also bringing a different aspect to Assassin’s Creed mixing old and familiar elements to a new element tied to the new story.

The film was shot in several different countries including Spain, which is where the film’s main setting will revolve around to provide the 15th century outlook.

The Assassin’s Creed movie is set to be released in all major theaters December 21st, 2016

Join DedSec in Watch Dogs 2

Marcus Holloway the main character for Watch Dogs 2

2 years ago we were very excited to get to play the very first Watch Dogs game that Ubisoft released back in 2014 and it became one heck of a story to play as a hacker on the streets of Chicago with character Aidan Pearce as he fought against the forces of the Blume Corporation and corruption involved while avenging his late niece.

Now, we are excited to see that there will be a sequel following the original Watch Dogs game that will be quite different — new city and a new main character for starters in Watch Dogs 2. DedSec and the new cTOS 2.0 central operating system will be coming to the new Watch Dogs 2 game from the previous game with new main character and the new star Marcus Holloway as he fights corruption in the city of San Francisco.

It is mentioned that Watch Dogs 2 brings plenty of improvements that the previous game never had including the ability to hack into vehicles, profile hacking everyone at once, and even some new “toys.” Marcus will have an aerial Watch Dogs 2 coming November 2016drone that will provide a greater way of surveillance and infiltration as it can also “bridge” hack into different cameras in the building and other features as well as a ground drone which will also be able to hack as well as complete objectives remotely.

In other news evolving around the Watch Dogs franchise, there is a possibility that there could also be a movie based on the video game itself in the near future. Jim Ryan, Sony President of Global Sales and Marketing, said that Sony Interactive Entertainment signed a deal with Ubisoft Motion Pictures to feature a Watch Dogs movie after the new Assassin’s Creed movie as the next video game-based movie in the Ubisoft fleet.

Watch Dogs 2 is scheduled to be released on November 15th, 2016 with a Playstation Exclusive for all PS4 players to experience each DLC pack 30 days before they are to be released on other platforms.

Final Thoughts About the Ubisoft Press Conference

Seeing Ubisoft come back to E3 made another decent impression on not only us; but, also the other fans who play with Ubisoft’s games. They have made some different impressions going down different avenues with the games that they continue to develop and make including the future with the Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs franchise.

I can’t wait to see what the new Watch Dogs movie is going to be about when they release the first trailer for the movie in the future and how it is going to be similar to the game itself; but, first it’s going to be interesting to see the new Assassin’s Creed and see if it really resembles what it is supposed to be.

On the gaming side, I wasn’t too crazy or excited for some of the games including Steep, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, or South Park as I believe that they don’t really present the proper gaming image or potentially the right setting to make a game out of. They all look cool; but, to make them into a game….I just don’t think it’s a great idea nor the right idea. I would prefer South Park and Star Trek stay on TV stations like Spike TV or Comedy Central.

Watch Dogs 2 and Ghost Recon: Wildlands for me were the only games out of Ubisoft’s press conference that I believe are going to be huge hits and two great games to explore their worlds for hours. These games are going to be fun to play with others as co-op becomes more aware in these two games making it more fun to enjoy.

On a personal note, I was really disappointed to see that Ubisoft has still not come out with a new release in the Splinter Cell franchise since Splinter Cell: Blacklist unveiled at E3 in 2012. I hope that Ubisoft is really working really hard to release a new Splinter Cell in the near future potentially at next year’s E3 Expo or possibly before….I’m a diehard fan and it is a title that brings out the true stealth gameplay in my interest and the blog.
