The battle between Sony and Microsoft continues for who has the best gaming console on the market in today’s gaming world. Only this time it is a competition with who has the best “slim version” and as well as provides the best quality support in 4k resolution . Back in August, Microsoft released the 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB versions of the Xbox One S console which has been somewhat popular and possibly will be out of the two slim version consoles. What about the PlayStation 4 Pro console and what it has to offer?

Besides 4k resolution and high dynamic range (HDR), the all new PS4 Pro will provide an AMD “Polaris” architecture GPU (the AMD Radeon RX 400 Series graphics cards) to handle the high performance UHD output of 4k resolution. As for the CPU itself, the Playstation 4 Pro will feature an AMD Jaguar 8-core CPU, which should get just about 2 Ghz of processing power (900+ Mhz of processing power)
The PS4 Pro console will also come with a state of the art IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wireless network adapter and a USB 3.1 port installed at the rear of the unit which will be ideal when streaming through the remote and share play features of this console as well as hooking up the new PlayStation VR headset to play this way.
All PS4 Pro consoles will allow everyone to play up to 60 frames per second when the console is used with the Premium HDMI format. Also, the premium HDMI capability with the PS4 Pro console will help achieve the maximum performance if any gamer wants to play via Virtual Reality (the Playstation VR headset). One note about playing in 4k with this console is that your TV must be HDR10 compatible in order to achieve the benefits of playing in this resolution.
Though the PS4 pro will not support the 4k Blu-Ray disc formats, it will have the same standard Blu-Ray optical drive to support standard Blu-Ray discs (can run up to 1080p resolution). Also, the PS4 Pro will likely in future updates support 4k video streaming through common video apps like Netflix and YouTube.
The PS4 Pro will come standard with a 1TB hard drive with further memory upgrades later on down the road; but, the memory bandwidth of this console will be about 20% better than the standard PS4 system.

Personal Views about the PS4 Pro
As I think about the Sony PS4 Pro console so far as the design and technical side of it, I believe Sony is going in the right direction with the graphics that could match up to what Microsoft offered with the Xbox One S in some areas including with the GPU and CPU side to get 4k UHD in gaming; but, I believe Sony has left out some details that they did not really think about before unveiling it.
One of the things that I noticed was left out from the PS4 Pro from the Xbox One S, is that the PS4 Pro will not be supporting 4k UHD Blu-Ray discs which to me could impact the sales of this console slightly if many users decide to seek more of the benefit to strictly watch movies and not buy the console for gaming.
The second thing I noticed is that PS4 Pro is only coming with a 1TB hard drive and not with out memory options like the Xbox One S (which has a 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB “special edition); but, there is a possibility that Sony could release more memory options for this console in the future if its in the plans.
These two details are slightly minor to me and wouldn’t stop someone like me from at least giving this console a try to see if the technical specs speak for themselves.
Do I believe the PS4 Pro will be better than the Xbox One S??? To answer this question, I believe both consoles are evenly matched from the technical side and appearance; but, if I didn’t care from going 1080p to 4k resolution straight off…I would wait for 2017 when Microsoft unveils “Project Scorpio” and what bullet Sony is going to shoot next in unveiling their next full size 4k console to match up to Project Scorpio.
